ATryn is a recombinant form of antithrombin. Antithrombin is a protein in your blood stream, which functions as a naturally occurring mild blood thinner. Some people have a hereditary antithrombin deficiency. Most live without even knowing they have it. However, if they are in a situation where clotting becomes critical, an easy-to-use blood thinner is essential. Blood thinners administered in critical situations need to be thawed out or mixed based on patient weight. ATryn is available for use immediately.
